So when you think of a lime, what comes to mind? You probably imagine the little green citrus fruit and how sour it is, but have you taken a step back to consider the health benefits of a lime?
Historically, the lime was used by sailors to prevent scurvy, which is a deficiency of vitamin C (something our body needs to function properly). Limes came to America with the Spanish explorers in the 16th century. They were planted in the Florida Keys and were soon in great demand with the mining community because of its ability to prevent scurvy and now 5 centuries later, the United States is one of the top commercial producers.
Other than providing our body with vitamin C, limes have many more health benefits. Here are just a few:
- Lime juice and oil are very beneficial for skin. It rejuvenates the skin, keeps it shining, protects it from infections and reduces body odor!
- Limes aid in the digestion process, the acids stimulate the digestives system and increase secretion of digestive juices.
- Limes are a great way to help with weight loss. Mixing a glass of warm water and the juice from a full lime is a great way to stay hydrated and refreshed!
- Limes can be used a disinfectant and antiseptic.
- Limes are a great way of treating constipation, urinary disorders, and even gout.
For such a small fruit, limes sure have big benefits! So next time you are drinking a glass of water, put a lime in it and give your body the vitamin C it needs!

Very informative. Spaniards does really helped many countries though they did give much negative impact throughout the year. but so far without them things like this wouldn't happen.
